Turco is a town in the Oruro department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Turco is the central place of the canton Turco , one of three cantons of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Turco in the province of Sajama . Turco is located on the western edge of the Oruro department at an altitude of 3856  m, almost one hundred kilometers from the Chilean border, on the right western bank of the Río Turco , which flows over the Río Lauca to the Salar de Coipasa salt lake . A wide alluvial plain extends southwest of Turco , which has been raised by the Río Sajama , the Río Cosapa and the Río Turco in the last millions of years .
