Serranía de Huayllamarca
The Serranía de Huayllamarca (" Mountainous Country of Huayllamarca ") is a folded mountain range in the highlands of Bolivia .
The Serranía de Huayllamarca is a ridge about one hundred kilometers long, which extends on the Altiplano west of the city of Oruro in a northwest-southeast direction and is made up of sandstone , conglomerate rock and lutite . It begins in the south near the town of Corque and continues to the north and northwest to the Río Desaguadero , the foothills of the ridge extend further north to the southern edge of Lake Titicaca .
The mountain range rises over long stretches only a few hundred meters above the 3,700 to 4,000 m high Altiplano, in the middle section it reaches a height of up to 4,700 m. Due to the low rainfall in the winter months, many of the small rivers along the ridge only have periodic water flow.
