Carangas is a province in the northern part of the Oruro department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
location
The province of Carangas is one of sixteen provinces in the Oruro department. It lies between 17 ° 59 'and 18 ° 54' south latitude and between 67 ° 09 'and 67 ° 45' west longitude .
It borders in the northwest on the province of San Pedro de Totora , in the west on the province Sajama , in the southwest on the province Litoral , in the southeast on the province Sud Carangas , in the east on the province Saucarí and in the northeast on the province Nor Carangas .
The province extends over 105 kilometers in north-south direction and 75 kilometers in east-west direction.

The population of the province of Carangas has increased by almost half in the past two decades:
- 1992 : 7,930 inhabitants ( census )
- 2001 : 10,505 inhabitants (census)
- 2012 : 11,071 inhabitants (census)
The province's most important idiom is Aymara , spoken by 94 percent of the population, ahead of Spanish (84 percent) and Quechua (13 percent). 43.1 percent of the population are younger than 15 years old. ( 2001 )
92.5 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 98.1 percent live without sanitary facilities ( 1992 ).
79.8 percent of those in employment work in agriculture, 0.1 percent in mining, 3.5 percent in industry, and 16.6 percent in the service sector ( 2001 ).
72 percent of the population are Catholic, 23 percent are Protestant ( 1992 ).
