Opoqueri is a town in the Oruro department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Opoqueri is the central place of the canton Opoqueri in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Corque in the province of Carangas . Opoqueri located at an altitude of 3,783 meters above sea level in the Bolivian Altiplano about sixty kilometers north of the salt lake Salar de Coipasa .

The climate in the Opoqueri area is semi-arid and has a short rainy season in summer, the annual precipitation is almost 300 mm (see Turco climate diagram). Opoqueri is 114 kilometers by road southwest of Oruro , the capital of the department.
From Oruro, the unpaved highway Ruta 12 leads via Toledo and Ancaravi to Opoqueri and on via Huachacalla and Pisiga on the Chilean border to Colchane in Chile .
Eight kilometers northeast of the village, the Ruta 12 crosses the Río Barras , which for most of the year seeps into the Puna twenty kilometers south of Opoqueri and only flows into the Salar de Coipasa in the rainy months from January to March .

Due to the historical population distribution, the region has a high proportion of indigenous population, in the Municipio Corque 89.7 percent of the over 6-year-olds speak the Aymara language .
