Toledo is a town in the Oruro department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Toledo is the central place of the Municipio Toledo and the capital of the Saucarí Province . The village is located at an altitude of 3715  m between the rivers of the Río Matar Jahuira in the west and the Río Vinto Jahuira in the east, both of which drain towards Lake Poopó .

Toledo is located in the eastern part of the Bolivian Altiplano between the Serranía de Huayllamarca in the west and the Cordillera Azanaques in the east, which in turn is part of the Bolivian Andean mountain range of the Cordillera Central .

Because of its location on the equator, the climate is typical of the time of day and, because of its altitude, it is semi-arid, cool and dry. The mean average temperature of the region is around 10 ° C (see Oruro climate diagram), the monthly averages fluctuate only slightly between 6 ° C in June / July and just under 14 ° C in November / December. The annual precipitation is only 400 mm, with a clear dry season from May to August with monthly precipitation below 10 mm, and a short humidity period from December to March with 60-85 mm monthly precipitation.

Transport network

Toledo is 37 kilometers by road southwest of Oruro , the capital of the department.

The 279-kilometer national road Ruta 12 runs through Toledo and leads from Pisiga on the Chilean border in a north-easterly direction via Sabaya , Huachacalla , Ancaravi and Toledo to the capital Oruro and on to Caihuasi . In Oruro it crosses the north-south running highway Ruta 1 from Lake Titicaca via El Alto , Oruro and Potosí to Bermejo . In Caihuasi, it meets Ruta 4 , which heads east to Cochabamba , Santa Cruz de la Sierra and Puerto Suárez on the Brazilian border.
