Tomas Barrón is a province in the northern part of the Oruro department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

location

The Tomas Barrón Province is one of sixteen provinces in the Oruro Department. It lies between 17 ° 31 'and 17 ° 44' south latitude and between 67 ° 20 'and 67 ° 34' west longitude . It is bordered by the La Paz department to the north and west and the province of Cercado to the south and east .

The province extends over 25 kilometers in east-west and over 30 kilometers in north-south direction. The province comprises only nine localities, the central place is the rural town of Eucaliptus with 2,626 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) on the north-western edge of the province.

The main idioms of the province are Spanish and Aymara , spoken by 87 percent and 82 percent of the population, respectively; 8 percent of the population speak Quechua . 48 percent of the population is younger than 15 years. ( 2001 )

26 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 95 percent live without sanitary facilities ( 1992 ).

49 percent of the working population work in agriculture, 1 percent in mining, 11 percent in industry, 39 percent in the service sector ( 2001 ).

66 percent of the population are Catholic, 27 percent are Protestant ( 1992 ).
