Sebastián Pagador is a province in the southeastern part of the Oruro department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia . The province bears its name in honor of the freedom fighter Sebastián Pagador , who lost his life in the Oruro department.

location

The province of Sebastián Pagador is one of sixteen provinces in the Oruro department. It lies between 18 ° 55 'and 19 ° 30' south latitude and between 65 ° 49 'and 66 ° 37' west longitude .

It borders in the north-east and north on the northern part of the province of Eduardo Avaroa , in the north-west on the province of Sud Carangas and the province of Ladislao Cabrera , in the south-west on the southern part of the province of Eduardo Avaroa and in the south-east on the Department of Potosí .

The province extends over 100 kilometers in east-west and over 50 kilometers in north-south direction. The central place is the city of Santiago de Huari with 4332 inhabitants on the northwestern edge of the province, only ten kilometers from Lake Poopó .

The province of Sebastián Pagador is located on the eastern edge of the Bolivian Altiplano in front of the Cordillera Azanaques , which is part of the Cordillera Central mountain range . The mean average temperature of the region is 8–9 ° C (see climate diagram Challapata) and fluctuates between 4 ° C in June and July and 11 ° C in December. The annual precipitation is almost 350 mm, with a pronounced dry season from April to October with monthly precipitation below 15 mm, and significant precipitation only from December to March with 60 to 80 mm monthly precipitation.

74.1 percent of the workforce work in agriculture, 0.2 percent in mining, 7.9 percent in industry, 17.8 percent in the service sector ( 2001 ).

84 percent of the population are Catholic, 14 percent are Protestant ( 1992 ).
