Quirks of different services

The six blood donation services of the DRK and the German Armed Forces have partly made individual regulations with regard to the blood donation needle.

Bavarian Blood Donation Service (BSD)

The Bavarian Red Cross honors since 1999 in the following order: 3, 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175 and 200.

Donors with three or ten blood donations receive their certificate of honor on site. Donors with 25 donations will receive their badge of honor and their certificate sent to them. Donors from the 50th donation are honored in the local associations. From the 75th donation, the design of the badge of honor is different in the form of a medal with the inscription "Blood donate lives save", a cross in a stylized drop of blood and a garnet in a double wreath. In addition, from the 75th blood donation, donors receive an invitation to a large cross-district donation ceremony.

Blood donation services in Hamburg

In Hamburg, blood donation ceremonies take place after the 50th, 100th, 150th and 200th blood donation. In the Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the badge is awarded from the 100 blood donation at a special ceremony in the Hamburg City Hall by the Senator for Health. The needle assigned here shows the symbol of a blood drop.

The DRK blood donation service of the state associations of the German Red Cross Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia, Oldenburg and Bremen, as well as the state association Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania stopped awarding blood donation needles at the end of 2019. For every 25th additional donation there is an honorary gift from the local DRK association.
