Norbert Horvatek

Norbert Horvatek (born October 8, 1888 in Gußwerk , † January 2, 1982 in Graz ) was an Austrian politician of the SPÖ . Horvatek was a member of the National Council and State Parliament of Styria as well as the State Councilor and Deputy Governor of Styria.

Life

Horvatek completed elementary school in what is now the Slovenian town of Marburg , where he then, in 1904, also attended the teacher training institute. In 1908 he became a teacher supplement in Sankt Andrä im Sausal . Further teaching stations were then Judenburg , Fohnsdorf , Vordernberg and St. Veit . In 1924 he became mayor of the Styrian community of Fohnsdorf. He then sat for the SPÖ in the Austrian National Council (from May 18, 1927 to October 1, 1930 and from December 2, 1930 to February 17, 1934). After the suppression of the Austrian Civil War, Horvatek was imprisoned in the Wöllersdorf detention camp in 1934 , and arrested again in 1938 and 1944.

From 1945 to 1960 he was a member of the state parliament in Styria, and between 1945 and 1952 he was also deputy chairman of the Styrian SPÖ. Finally, the Styrian still held the office of Deputy Governor of Styria from January 30, 1954 to June 15, 1960, previously he had already been Provincial Councilor from May 20, 1945 to January 30, 1954.
