Josef Pongratz
Josef Pongratz (born February 21, 1863 in Eibiswald ; † November 26, 1931 in Graz ) was an Austrian politician of the SDAP .
After attending elementary school, Pongratz completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter in Graz, joined the association of carpenters' assistants in 1879 and soon became its first social democratic chairman. In 1890 Pongratz was one of the co-founders of the social democratic newspaper Arbeiterwille . From 1891 he acted as secretary, from 1910 to 1925 as director of the district health insurance fund in Graz (today the Styrian regional health insurance fund ).
As a representative of the Social Democrats, Pongratz was a member of the Graz municipal council from 1900 to 1913 and 1918 to 1924, and a member of the Austrian Reichsrat from 1907 to 1914 and 1917/18 . From October 1918 to February 1919 he was a member of the Provisional National Assembly and then from December 1920 to November 1923 the Federal Council . From November 1918 to December 1930 he acted as Deputy Governor in Styrian regional politics.
