Hans-Joachim Ressel

Hans-Joachim Ressel (born November 21, 1943 in Berlin ) is a retired Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). Ressel was a member of the National Council and Regional Council in the Styrian regional government .

education and profession

After elementary school, Ressel moved to a secondary school and then attended a three-year secondary school. He then worked as a technician at Leykam-Mürzaler Papier- und Zellstoff AG, and from 1961 to 1966 he completed part-time work at the Higher Technical Federal Training and Research Institute in Graz. After graduating from high school, Ressel also studied business administration at the University of Graz from 1967 to 1972.

politics

Ressel was involved in his company as an employee representative and was elected chairman of the works council for employees in 1972. From 1976 he was deputy central works council chairman at Leykam Mürz Valley Paper and Cellulose AG. He was also the executive chairman of the ÖGB Steiermark and was sworn in as a member of the National Council on January 23, 1979, of which he was a member until October 18, 1991. As early as 1987, Ressel took over the function of the district chairman of the SPÖ Graz-Umgebung. On October 18, 1991 Ressel was elected to the Provincial Council of the Styrian Provincial Government. He then took over the departments of finance, transport and tourism and, after the SPÖ's defeat in the state elections in Styria in 2000 , left the state parliament on November 7, 2000 after the ÖVP had claimed the post of state finance council. Ressel then moved to the board of directors of the Graz Leykam Group. After the withdrawal of the Styrian SPÖ boss Peter Schachner-Blazizek , Ressel announced in December 2001 that he would take part in a fight vote in the new election of the state party leader, but subsequently renounced in favor of the lateral entrant Franz Voves .
