Herbert Paierl

Herbert Paierl (born May 26, 1952 in Prebensdorf , Styria ) is an Austrian manager and politician ( ÖVP ). From 1996 to 2004 he was the Styrian Regional Councilor for Economy and Europe.

biography

Paierl comes from Eastern Styria and graduated from Gleisdorf in 1970 ; He then studied spatial planning , spatial planning and energy management at the Vienna University of Technology . After working on various research projects, in 1981 he became an employee (later head of cabinet) in the office of the Styrian governor Josef Krainer junior ; a position he held until 1993. From 1993 to 1996 he was director of the board of the energy supplier STEWEAG (today Energie Steiermark ). In 1996, he became State Councilor for Economy and Europe in the Klasnic I state government , and he also took over the finance department in the Klasnic II state government . The introduction of the cluster strategy in Styrian economic policy (auto clusters, wood clusters) goes back to his initiative . In April 2004 he was dismissed from the state government in connection with internal party disputes about his "intimate enemy", former regional councilor Gerhard Hirschmann , and replaced by Gerald Schöpfer .

He has been a self-employed management consultant since 2004, and from 2004 to 2005 and since 2009 he has been with Frank Stronach 's Magna Group . In October 2007 he was elected President of the “Management Club Austria”. After the National Council election in 2008 , he was traded as a candidate for the office of Minister of Economics and, according to press reports, had already accepted, but his appointment was prevented at short notice. He is a member of the board of directors of Lyoness , an illegal, pyramid-like sales system that is no longer allowed to do business in Norway .

In July 2019, he was elected as the successor to Hans Kronberger as Chairman of the Board of the Bundesverband Photovoltaic Austria (PVA).

Paierl is married for the second time; from his first marriage he has an adult daughter and an adult son.
