Elisabeth Grossmann (born November 25, 1968 in Graz ) is an Austrian politician of the Social Democratic Party of Austria ( SPÖ ). From December 2002 to September 2009 and from January 2013 to November 2017 she was a member of the National Council . From September 2009 to January 2013 she was a member of the Styrian state government Voves II and state councilor for youth, family, education and women. On January 21, 2013, Michael Schickhofer became a member of the Provincial Council in your place, he moved from the National Council. On January 29, 2013, Grossmann moved back to the National Council. She has had a mandate in the Federal Council since November 2017 and is the area spokesperson for justice and the constitution as well as women, equal treatment and diversity. On July 15, 2020, she was unanimously elected 1st Vice President of the Federal Council.

Career

Grossmann attended school in Graz and studied after graduation at the Karl-Franzens University Graz Law , providing them with the Magister iuris graduated 1997th In addition to her studies, she devoted herself to raising children for her two sons and worked as a saleswoman, secretary and nursing assistant. In 1997 she became deputy district chairman of the young generation in the Voitsberg district . After her internship at the Graz Higher Regional Court , she became managing director of the women's platform in the Voitsberg district in 2000. From December 20, 2002 she was a member of the National Council. In 2003, Grossmann became deputy district chairwoman of the SPÖ Voitsberg and district women chairwoman of the SPÖ Voitsberg since 2003. In 2004 she became the local party leader of the SPÖ in the market town of Edelschrott , where she was also a member of the local council from 2005 to 2010. She was the child and youth spokesperson for the SPÖ from 2004 to 2007. Since 2007 she has been the European spokesperson for the SPÖ and foreign policy spokesperson for the SPÖ and deputy state party leader of the SPÖ Styria, and since November 7, 2007, she has been the deputy chairperson of the SPÖ parliamentary club.

In September 2009 Elisabeth Grossmann became a designated member of the state government and took over the agendas for education, youth, women and families from State Councilor Bettina Vollath on September 22, 2009 . Vollath, on the other hand, received the cultural agendas and health care from the outgoing state councilors Helmut Hirt and Kurt Flecker . Sonja Steßl-Mühlbacher from East Styria succeeded her as a member of the National Council . Since October 21, 2010, Elisabeth Grossmann has again been responsible for education, youth, women and the family in the state government of Voves II .

After a government reshuffle, on January 21, 2013, Grossmann resigned from the state government. She moved back to the National Council at the end of January 2013.

In November 2017, Grossmann moved to the Austrian Federal Council, succeeding Mario Lindner . In July 2020, she was elected Vice President of the Federal Council to succeed Michael Wanner . Grossmann works as a freelancer at the FH Campus Wien for the supervision of master’s students.
