Michael Wanner (politician)

Michael Wanner (born February 8, 1964 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian politician of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ). From March 2018 to July 2020 he was a delegated member of the Federal Council by the Salzburg State Parliament , where he served as Vice President from December 2019 . Since July 2020 he has been a member of the Salzburg state parliament and chairman of the SPÖ state parliament club.

Life

Michael Wanner visited after the elementary school in fief and the secondary school in Liefering from 1978, the military secondary school in Wiener Neustadt , where he in 1982 graduated . He did military service in 1982/83 as a one-year volunteer . He then graduated from the Theresian Military Academy and was a career officer in the armed forces , most recently with the rank of captain . Since October 1991 he has been head of the municipal building yard of the city ​​of Salzburg , where he was a member of the municipal council from 1999 to 2018 and chairman of the committee for planning and transport from 2004 to 2018. Vincent Pultar succeeded him in the local council. Since October 2013 he has been the district chairman of the SPÖ Salzburg and is a member of the SPÖ Salzburg regional executive committee .

From March 21, 2018 to July 7, 2020, he was a delegated member of the Federal Council by the Salzburg state parliament , where he was responsible for the committees for foreign and internal affairs, the committee for education, art and culture, the health committee, Member of the Science and Research Committee and the Judiciary Committee. After the state elections in Salzburg in 2018 , he has been a member of the Committee on Internal Affairs, the Committee on Sports Matters, the Committee on Education, Art and Culture, the Health Committee, the Justice Committee and the National Defense Committee since June 14, 2018. Wanner succeeded Susanne Kurz , who resigned from her Federal Council mandate at the beginning of March 2018. On December 19, 2019, he was elected Vice President of the Federal Council alongside Magnus Brunner .

In May 2020 it was announced that Wanner was to move to the Salzburg state parliament on the mandate of Walter Steidl . David Egger took over his Federal Council mandate . On May 25, 2020, the SPÖ state parliament club decided on Wanner as the club chairman to succeed Steidl. Elisabeth Grossmann succeeded him as Vice President of the Federal Council . On July 8, Wanner was a member of parliament sworn in .

Michael Wanner is married to the SPÖ politician Hilde Wanner , has a daughter and two sons from their first marriage.
