Walter Steidl (born August 28, 1957 ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From 1999 to 2012 and from 2013 to 2020 he was a member of the Salzburg state parliament and from 2007 to 2009 and from 2013 to 2020 club chairman of the SPÖ state parliamentary group. 2012/13 he was the provincial government in the state government Burgstaller II , 2013, Governor -Stellvertreter.

Life

Steidl completed an apprenticeship as an electrician from 1972 and worked in the profession he had learned until 1978. In the period from 1983 to 1984 he graduated from the Social Academy in Vienna and has been managing director of the trade union for private employees , printing, journalism, paper (GPA-djp) Salzburg since July 2003 . Previously he was the secretary of the GPA. From 1999 Steidl was a member of the Salzburg state parliament and spokesman for the labor market, energy and sport. On September 18, 2012, he was nominated to succeed Cornelia Schmidjell, who was stepping down on October 3, 2012, as Regional Councilor for Social Affairs in the Burgstaller II regional government .

After Gabi Burgstaller resigned as a result of the state elections in Salzburg in 2013 , in which the SPÖ suffered great losses, he took over her position as state party leader of the SPÖ Salzburg . On May 15, 2020, David Egger was designated by the state party executive as state party chairman of the SPÖ Salzburg from July 1, 2020. Michael Wanner succeeded him on July 8, 2020 as member of the state parliament and club chairman in the state parliament .

Steidl is married and has four children.
