Maria Matzner

Maria Matzner (born January 5, 1902 in Zniscenie near Lemberg , † May 13, 1987 in Graz ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). Matzner was a member of the Federal Council and a member of the Styrian Landtag as well as a State Councilor in Styria.

Matzner attended the elementary and civil school in Graz and completed a course for office workers. She then moved to Wiener Neustadt and from 1926 she was employed in the Austrian Metalworkers' Association . In 1927 Matzner was appointed women's secretary for the Styrian social democracy. until it lost its function again in 1934 after the Social Democratic Party was banned. Thereafter Matzner was arrested and imprisoned several times until 1945. In 1945 she resumed her work as a women's secretary and held this position until 1962. Matzner was also a member of the Styrian state parliament from 1946 to 1962 and regional councilor in the Styrian state government from 1950 to 1962 . Matzner was then a member of the Federal Council from March 9, 1962 to May 14, 1970.
