Alberto Pinton

Alberto Pinton (born March 4, 1962 in Porto Marghera , Venice ) is a jazz musician ( C melody saxophone , baritone saxophone , bass clarinet , clarinet and alto flute ) and composer from Italy and working in Sweden .

Alberto Pinton first learned to play the piano and guitar, but switched to the saxophone at the age of twenty. After taking private lessons on this instrument, he moved to Sweden in 1985 . He later took part in summer workshops at Berklee College in Italy and received a scholarship to the Berklee School of Music in Boston , where he began studying with Joe Viola , George Garzone and Jerry Bergonzi in 1988, among others . During this time he switched to the baritone saxophone. In 1990 he completed his studies with a bachelor's degree. In Boston he appeared regularly with the Herb Pomeroy Jazz Orchestra, the Greg Hopkins Big Band, the Either / Orchestra and also played with Jim Black , Chris Speed and Dave Ballou .

In the early 1990s he returned to Stockholm and worked as a freelance musician with Ann-Marie Henning's band , the Swedish Radio Jazz Group and the Stockholm Jazz Orchestra , among others . In 1993 he continued his education in New York City when he received a scholarship from the Manhattan School of Music. There he studied a. a. with Hamiet Bluiett , John Purcell , Joe Temperley , Gary Smulyan , Dick Oatts , and composition with Ludmila Ulehla and Nils Vigeland. During his time in New York he performed with the Jason Lindner Big Band and Guillermo Klein's Big Van at the Small's jazz club , as well as with Greg Tardy , Mark Turner , Chris Cheek , Marty Ehrlich and Ellery Eskelin .

After obtaining his master's degree, he returned to Sweden in 1995 and worked with musicians such as Lennart Åberg , Palle Danielsson , Bobo Stenson , Mattis Cederberg and the Sonic Mechatronic Arkestra , the big bands of Peter Asplund and Magnus Lindgren , Lina Nybergs Brasil Big Bom, the band of Torbjörn Zetterberg , and the Bohuslän Big Band. In the early 2000s he recorded two albums with his quartet under his own name, Common Intent 2001 and Terraferma 2002, followed by Opus Facere (Clean Feed, 2018). He is currently working with a quintet with whom he recorded the album Vita Pratica in 2007 . 2019 presented the album Layers in a sextet line-up .
