Richard Kaan

Richard Kaan (until 1919 Kaan Edler von Distelfingen ) (born December 23, 1897 in Vienna , † January 15, 1969 in Oberaich ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ).

Kaan was a nephew of the Styrian governor Wilhelm Kaan ; like his uncle, Richard Kaan was also a lawyer in Graz. In June 1938, according to the historian Michael Wladika, he applied for admission to the NSDAP, which took place retroactively from May 1, 1938, which suggests an activity as an “illegal” . He was assigned the membership number 6,349,471. After the Second World War he belonged to the national liberal camp and represented the Styrian People's Party from 1949 until his death in the Styrian state parliament . From 1964 he was second president of the state parliament, from April 7, 1965 he served as first state parliament president.

He was killed in a car accident near Bruck an der Mur in 1969 , on the same route on which ÖVP chairman Karl Schleinzer had a fatal accident in 1975 .
