Gabriele Kolar (born December 11, 1959 in Judenburg ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). She has been a member of the Styrian State Parliament since 2005 and was 1st Vice Mayor of the city of Judenburg from 2010 to 2019. She was President of the State Parliament from July 2, 2019 to December 17, 2019, and has been the second President of the State Parliament since December 17, 2019.

Political career

Gabriele Kolar lives in Judenburg and has been a member of the Styrian state parliament since October 25, 2005. Because of this, she gave up her job as a secondary school teacher. She is also a member of the SPÖ state party board, member of the SPÖ state women's board and presidium, deputy regional party chairman and board member of the SPÖ city party Judenburg as well as SPÖ regional women chairwoman. In addition, she held the function of deputy state education chairman. Kolar is also deputy regional chairwoman of Upper Styria West (ROW GmbH).

Gabriele Kolar was also a member of the SPÖ's federal women's executive committee from 2004 to 2006, district chairwoman of Volkshilfe Judenburg from 2007 to 2016 and a member of the presidium of the SPÖ's federal education organization from 2010 to 2014.

At the end of May 2019 it was announced that she would succeed Bettina Vollath , who was elected as a member of the EU Parliament in the 2019 European elections in Austria , as President of the State Parliament . Elke Florian succeeded her as Vice Mayor of Judenburg. She was President of the State Parliament from July 2, 2019 to December 17, 2019 . After the state elections in 2019 , it followed at the beginning of the XVIII. Legislative period on December 17, 2019 after Manuela Khom as second state parliament president .

From June 23, 2015 to July 2, 2019, Gabriele Kolar was the chairwoman of the state parliament's committee for the protection of the environment, nature and animals. She would like to focus on these topics during her term of office as President of the State Parliament.

In the XVIII. Gabriele Kolar has been chairwoman of the state parliament's committee for climate protection, energy, the environment, animal and nature conservation, building and regional planning since January 14, 2020.

Private

Kolar is the mother of two sons.
