Franz Fartek (* 1966 ) is an ÖVP politician . He was sworn in as a member of the Styrian state parliament on June 16, 2015 .

Fartek is a farmer in Johnsdorf-Brunn . He is married and has two children.

Fartek, who was already active with the rural youth, started his political career in 1990 as a local councilor. In April 2004 he was elected mayor of Johnsdorf-Brunn. He retained this function until the independent municipality was dissolved on December 31, 2014 and merged with the municipality of Fehring . On April 22, 2015, Fartek was elected the first deputy mayor of the municipality of Fehring.

At the extraordinary district party convention of the southeast Styrian ÖVP on April 16, 2015 in St. Stefan im Rosental , Fartek prevailed in a hearing in front of the party executive against the state parliament member Anton Gangl as the top candidate of the south-east Styria for the state election 2015. With that, Fartek was sure to enter the Styrian state parliament as the successor to Josef Ober .

Fartek sees his political tasks in local politics , regional planning as well as agriculture and the development of rural areas. Another focus of his political work is the further development of the Styrian volcanic region .
