Cornelia Schweiner (born April 8, 1980 in Güssing ) is an Austrian politician of the SPÖ . The trained kindergarten teacher was sworn in as a member of the Styrian state parliament on June 16, 2015 .

Education and training

After attending primary school (1986–1990) and secondary school (1990–1994) in Fehring , Schweiner attended the federal upper level secondary school in Feldbach (1994–1995).

Starting in 1995, Schweiner attended the Federal Training Institute for Kindergarten Education (BAKIP) in Mureck , which she graduated with excellent results in 2000 with the matriculation and diploma examination. She did additional training in day nursery , after-school care and social education . During this time she was head of the BAKIP (1997-2000) and member of the Federal Youth Council Vienna (1999).

career path

Schweiner started his career in 2000 as a kindergarten teacher in the kindergarten of the Austrian Students' Union in Graz. In 2002 she switched to the Episcopal Ordinariate in Graz, where she became the educational officer of the Catholic Young Group of Styria. In 2005 she moved to the Feldbach / Fehring district administration, where she worked until 2007 as a social and learning supervisor for migrant families as well as educational assistance within the framework of youth welfare measures . In 2006/2007 she was the volunteer initiator and project manager of the “8ung für alle” project in the regional management of the Steirisches Vulkanland (Feldbach), which campaigned for more respect and tolerance in coexistence in the Feldbach district. From 2007 to 2008 she was an educational advisor for intercultural and global learning at Welthaus Graz .

With the move to the Political Office of State Councilor Bettina Vollath , where she was responsible for elementary education, childcare, family-political agendas as well as integration and education, Schweiner laid the foundation for her political career in 2008. In 2009 she moved to the political office of State Councilor Elisabeth Grossmann as a political advisor, where she was responsible for elementary education, child care, children's rights and family policy agendas. In 2010 she moved again to the Political Office of State Councilor Bettina Vollath, where she was in charge of integration , women and equality until the end of the legislative period .

In addition, Schweiner has been a freelance trainer since 2006, among others for the Landtag Club of the SPÖ Styria, the Renner Institute Styria, the ÖGB Styria, the Chamber for Workers and Salaried Employees Styria, the University of Education Styria, the Catholic University of Education Graz, the office of Styrian provincial government (child education and care department), the Catholic youth group Austria and the Retzhof educational center.

In addition to her job, Schweiner was deputy chairwoman of the Styrian kindergarten and daycare educators' group between 2000 and 2003 and a member of the board of directors at the Graz Children's Office from 2001 to 2003. In 2004 she was given the task of setting up and managing a parent-child playgroup in the municipality of Fehring. In 2006 she was the project manager of the Styrian Catholic Youth for the project “At the end of the street”.

Political career

Schweiner joined the SPÖ as a member in 2008. Since 2009 she has been a member of the Socialist Youth (SJ) Styria and the Association of Socialist Academics (BSA) Styria. In 2010 she became a co-opted member of the state women's board. In 2010 she became regional manager of the BSA Styria.

In 2012, Schweiner was appointed to the SPÖ Styrian regional party executive. In 2012 and 2014 she was a delegate at the SPÖ federal party conference. In 2013 she headed the target group pillar working group based on a resolution by the SPÖ's state party executive .

On April 9, 2015, Schweiner, who had recently moved back to Fehring, was nominated as a candidate for the 2015 state election by the SPÖ Südoststeiermark after a hearing of 23 applicants and ranked behind state councilor Michael Schickhofer , but ahead of state parliament member Wolfgang Dolesch . Because of this ranking, she was certain to be elected to the state parliament despite the massive losses suffered by the SPÖ. She was sworn in on June 16, 2015.

Schweiner's concerns in the state parliament are the strengthening of the regional labor market, the establishment of a regional education plan, the expansion of the rail network and the promotion of social cohesion. In particular, she wants to work for the expansion of the Radkersburger Bahn .

In the Landtag, Schweiner is a member of the committees for health (health and care, science and research), agriculture (agriculture and forestry) and petitions . Schweiner is a substitute member in the following committees: Social Affairs and Constitution.

She was nominated by the SPÖ's Landtag Club as a spokesperson for the areas of asylum, integration and immigration as well as petitions.

Private

Schweiner lives in Fehring and lives in a community. She has a son (* 2004).
