Barbara Riener (born December 15, 1962 in Vienna ) is an Austrian psychotherapist and politician ( ÖVP ). Riener was a member of the Austrian National Council from 2002 to 2009 and has been a member of the Styrian Landtag since 2009 . Since January 2019 she has been the successor of Karl Lackner ÖVP club chairman in the state parliament.

education and profession

Riener attended elementary school in Deutschfeistritz from 1969 to 1973 and then graduated from the Kepler High School in Graz , where she graduated from high school in 1981. Riener then attended the Academy for Social Work in Graz and passed the diploma examination there.

Riener has been working as a qualified social worker for the state of Styria since 1983 and has been a psychotherapist for systemic family therapy since 1995. Since 1995 she has also been employed in the state staff representation at the state of Styria, where she works as a mediator, among other things.

politics

Riener has been the regional party chairman of the ÖVP Styria since 2000. She is also a member of the state board of the ÖAAB Styria, deputy city group chairman of the ÖAAB Graz and a member of the state staff representation of the public service union . Since 2005 she has been chairwoman of the SOS Children's Village Branch Association Styria. Riener represented the ÖVP in the National Council from December 20, 2002 to March 10, 2009. She then moved to the Styrian state parliament, where she was sworn in on March 17, 2009 for the resigned mandate Annemarie Wicher .
