Sandra Krautwaschl grew up in Gleisdorf and graduated here. In 1994 she graduated from the Academy for Physiotherapy.

The plastic-free living experiment

After a vacation on a Croatian island with a lot of plastic waste on the beach and in the water and inspired by the film Plastic Planet by the Austrian director Werner Boats , which shows the dangers of plastic and synthetic plastics in general in their various forms, Krautwaschl became an eco-activist. After the film's premiere in Graz in November 2009, she decided to live plastic-free with her family for a month and to renounce plastic products. For this purpose, all plastic items in the household were collected and alternative options were sought. In the yard of the property, these piled up to form a huge mountain. The efforts culminated in the film No Home for Plastic , which was produced by ThimFilm GmbH. The film gained international interest; in the ARD as well as in Switzerland or the USA. To this end, she will publish the paperback “Plastic Free Zone - How My Family Can Live Almost Without Plastic” at Heyne Verlag on June 8, 2012. The “attempt” by the Krautwaschl-Rabensteiner family is still ongoing even today (2018). Sandra Krautwaschl also repeatedly passes on her findings and experiences in lectures and discussions.

Sandra Krautwaschl followed up with the 12x18 cm paperback “Waste Free Zone” on January 13, 2020 and presented it at several events in Graz and Styria in the following months. According to the motto “Less stuff, more life”, it conveys how reducing the number of things in the household enables more freedom for life.
