Plastic Planet is a feature documentary by director Werner Boats . The film shows the dangers of plastic and synthetic plastics in general in their various forms and their worldwide distribution.
action
Starting with a biographical look back at his childhood - to his grandfather, who was managing director of the German Interplastik-Werke in the 1960s - Boats draws a bow to the present, in which plastic products are omnipresent.
Boats travels the world, observing and questioning people living in the midst of plastic: from families in their single-family houses in Austria and the USA to those in the simplest huts in Calcutta . He conducts interviews with speakers from the plastics industry and with scientists who talk about the health risks of additives - especially plasticizers .
Boats shows how ubiquitous plastic has become in all its forms and how plastic waste is distributed to the most remote areas of the world. He shows this exemplarily with the pollution of the desert in Morocco and the plastic waste in the Pacific , where the particles of decomposing plastic waste are mistaken for plankton and eaten by marine life , which can lead to their death.
