Obermurach is a district of the town of Oberviechtach in the Upper Palatinate district of Schwandorf in Bavaria .

Geographical location

Obermurach is located on the eastern slope of the 580 m high Hauserner Berg about 3 km southwest of Oberviechtach. The Hauserner Berg is one of the granite rocks in the Oberviechtach granite basin. It is crowned by the ruins of the Haus Murach castle , which was the nucleus of Obermurach.

history

At first there was no independent village of Obermurach, but the settlement consisted of the castle Schloss Murach and the associated buildings. It was not until 1805, when the castle was being used as a quarry, that the postman from Neunburg, who had bought the castle, had houses built on the flatter eastern slope, which he then sold individually. This created the municipality of Obermurach. As of March 23, 1913 (Easter), Obermurach was listed as part of the Oberviechtach parish with 29 houses and 148 inhabitants. On December 31, 1990, Obermurach had 129 inhabitants and belonged to the parish of Oberviechtach.
