Schönthan is a district of the town of Oberviechtach in the Upper Palatinate district of Schwandorf ( Bavaria ).

Geographical location

Schönthan is located about 5 km east of Oberviechtach and about 1 km west of the Ascha in the Gaisthal-Winklarner basin.

history

Schönthan was mentioned in writing for the first time in the draft protocol of 1587. In 1891 a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary was built in Schönthan . On March 23, 1913 (Easter), Schönthan was listed as part of the Oberviechtach parish with 14 houses and 100 residents. On December 31, 1990, Schönthan had 81 inhabitants and belonged to the parish of Oberviechtach.
