Johannisberg is a district of the town of Oberviechtach in the Upper Palatinate district of Schwandorf ( Bavaria ).

Geographical location

Johannisberg is located about 500 m south of Ostmarkstraße and about two kilometers southeast of Oberviechtach on the southeast edge of the Oberviechtach granite basin.

history

The pilgrimage church of St. Johannes Nepomuk was built in 1732, but was not consecrated until September 22, 1974 . It contains valuable baroque furnishings and late Gothic wooden figures. There is a procession to this church on the days of prayer . On March 23, 1913 (Easter), Johannisberg was listed as part of the Oberviechtach parish with two houses and 15 residents. Until the 1970s, there were a few eagle owls and capercaillies on Johannisberg. The land consolidation carried out at the time destroyed their habitats and the last specimens were exterminated through hunting . On December 31, 1990 Johannisberg had 18 inhabitants and belonged to the parish of Oberviechtach.
