history

Waldegg Castle, around 1830

The origins of Kirchbach, founder, date and occasion of the foundation are in the dark. However, several centuries before the first documented mention in 1240, Slavs lived there , and the place names come from this time.

In order to push back the Slavic influence, the dukes appointed Franconian and later Bavarian settlers. The landlords assigned the settlers certain places where they could build their houses, mostly on both sides of a street. A so-called street village was created , as Kirchbach is. The Slavs lived mainly in clustered villages . The final syllable of the place name "bach" indicates a settlement of Frankish origin, but the area was Slavic.

Chirchpach is mentioned for the first time in a document in 1240 . In 1256, Chirchpach was pledged as a contributing parish by Bishop Ulrich von Seckau to Mr. Gundacker von Gleitsow von Narrenegg; In 1260 this pledge was taken back by Bishop Bernhard von Seckau.

In the year 1300 one wrote Chirchperg, 1318 Chirchpach, 1378 Chiripach, 1381 Chirpach, 1387 Ciripach, 1433 Kirpach, 1447 Kchirichpachberg, 1452 Chirchdorf, 1475 Kirichpach, 1478 Kirchpach. Here the permission is given to build the church in Kirchpach "from the prochnen gesloss Narrenegk and the gemevr daselbs". In a letter to the bishop in 1770 the name Kierchbach appears , in the same year Khuerchbach , in 1781 on a church bill Kuerchbach , and finally the spelling was generalized to Kirchbach .

On February 11, 1932, the Kirchbach market survey took place.

Kirchbach serves the surrounding agricultural communities as a shopping and parish center. The economic structure is shaped by agriculture and forestry. But medium-sized companies from the fields of building materials, transport and electronics production have also settled here. The economic catchment area of the market town of Kirchbach covers a radius of around 5000 inhabitants in the Schwarzautal, Labilltal to Krumegg and St. Marein. The structural change in the commercial sector led to a shift to the service sector. The insurance sector in particular has established itself in Kirchbach with several broker offices since 1995. A heavy loss for the market town of Kirchbach was the relocation of the Balasso veneer factory to Lebring.

The former industrial area is empty. The concrete industry in Glatzau, which went bankrupt in 2007, was restarted in 2008 by new operators. The former precast plant is to be expanded. The south-facing area of the industrial area will be taken over by a new operator group in October 2008 (Kirchbach concrete works).
