Schwarzau im Schwarzautal is a former municipality in southeastern Styria in the district of Südoststeiermark . As part of the municipal structural reform in Styria , it was merged with the municipalities of Wolfsberg im Schwarzautal , Breitenfeld am Tannenriegel , Hainsdorf im Schwarzautal and Mitterlabill on January 1st, 2015 . The new municipality bears the name Schwarzautal . The basis for this was a joint application from these communities.

After the amalgamation of the political district of Leibnitz, Schwarzau im Schwarzautal belongs to the other predecessor communities of the new community of Schwarzautal. The boundaries of the districts of Southeast Styria and Leibnitz were changed accordingly.

Likewise, with effect from January 1, 2015, the judicial districts were redefined due to the changes in the framework of the municipal structural reform in Styria in the “District Courts Ordinance Styria 2015”.

Schwarzau in the Schwarzautal lies on the Schwarzau about 27 km south-east of Graz and about 20 km west of the district capital Feldbach in the eastern Styrian hill country .

  • Schwarzau in the Schwarzautal (240)
  • Seibuttendorf (188)

The former municipality consisted of two cadastral municipalities (area 2016):

  • Maggau (514.69 ha)
  • Schwarzau (535.97 ha)

Municipal council

The council was dissolved as a result of the municipality merger on December 31, 2015. It consisted of nine members, all of whom belonged to the ÖVP . Other parties did not run for the 2010 municipal council election .

Economy and Infrastructure

Schwarzau in the Schwarzautal is a typical rural place with predominantly agricultural and forestry use by small and medium-sized farms, which are mostly run as a sideline.

As the largest commercial enterprise, the Neuroth company (optics, acoustics) has its headquarters in Schwarzau, where hearing aids are manufactured. There is also a larger chicken farm (free-range).
