archeology
There are several important archaeological sites on the Frauenberg near Leibnitz. In addition to numerous emergency excavations, research excavations were carried out in several places, some of which produced spectacular results. A Roman cult area on the top of the mountain was partially exposed as early as the 1950s. The excavated imperial temple was called the Temple of Isis Noreia , an assignment that has not been confirmed. Later, the area adjacent to the Roman temple was examined more closely and it turned out that the cult already dates back to the late Latène period and a first Roman temple of the Gallo-Roman type was built at this point. Two dedicatory inscriptions for the Celtic god Latobius and one for Mogetius have also been found from this period .
On a slightly lower terrace, the Perl- / Stadläckern, there is another site on which there was a sanctuary, albeit a Celtic sanctuary, consisting of a large, almost square moat, in which the bones of sacrificed cattle, costume components and weapons were sacrificed were. This sanctuary, which can perhaps be connected with the work of the Druids , was abandoned in Roman times and only the cult area on the hilltop remained. In late antiquity there was an extensive burial ground in this area and in this epoch the mountain was again used as a retreat for the people of Flavia Solva . According to the latest excavations on the temple plateau, an early Christian church is suspected there. This is suggested by the foundations of a baptistery , which was partially uncovered in the 1950s, as well as finds of the marble interior.
