Ragnitz is a municipality with 1504 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Leibnitz district in the Austrian state of Styria .

Community structure

The municipality on the lower reaches of the Stiefing comprises the following nine localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):

The community consists of the cadastral communities Badendorf, Haslach and Ragnitz.

history

The earliest written document is from 1126 and is "Rakkaniz". The name goes back to the Slovenian raknica (settlement near the crayfish).

The local community as an autonomous body was established in 1850. After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community came to the Reichsgau Steiermark, 1945 to 1955 it was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria.

The municipal coat of arms was awarded with effect from January 1, 1992.

Description of the coat of arms : "In blue a golden bar with a forward red crab in it, in the upper field of three rectangular, openwork golden lock leaves with clover leaves at the corners, in the lower field accompanied by three (2: 1) golden sea leaves."

Sports

  • Football: In 2009, the construction of the Julius Meinl Stadium in Ragnitz began and was also completed. The construction costs amount to almost one million euros, with the financing being made much easier by Julius Meinl, the honorary citizen of the community. The lawn was completely overhauled in order to prepare the stadium for the Oberliga. The stadium consists of a grandstand that allows around 500 spectators.
