history

In 1066 a church is mentioned in a document "within the Hengistburg". It is not certain whether it was St. Margarethen. In any case, in 1136 the church of St. Margaret was transferred to the Suben monastery . As the southernmost parish of the diocese of Seckau at that time , St. Margarethen "iuxta Wildoniam" (near Wildon) is named in its founding document in 1218/19. The parish, which included the towns of Lebring and St. Margarethen, was looked after by the canons of the monastery until the reforms of Joseph II (1784). Murstätten Castle is also located in the village.

The earliest written document about Lebring is from 1153 and is "Lewarn". The name goes back to the Old High German leo (hill, burial mound). Lewarn is the dative ('Bei den Menschen am Hügel').

In 1896 the volunteer fire brigade was founded. The Raiffeisenkasse St. Margarethen bei Lebring was founded in 1899. In 1902 the Lebring power station was built.

In 1915 a barrack camp was built in Lebring, the large barracks , probably a hundred in number, were divided into four square groups and were ready for military use. The main purpose of the accommodation was the placement of the squad or the replacement battalion of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Infantry - Regiment . No. 2. A large part of the camp later served as a prisoner of war camp . The cemetery of this camp with 1670 graves is located in the neighboring municipality of Lang.

A separate gendarmerie post was set up in 1919. In 1973 the Lebring Fire Brigade and Civil Protection School was established. Federal President Dr. Rudolf Kirchschläger opened the Philips color picture tube plant in Lebring in 1974. The grand opening of the secondary school took place in 1978. The State Fire Brigade Association for Styria has been based in Lebring since 1992 . In 1994 the market survey of the place took place.
