Tillmitsch is a municipality with 3375 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Leibnitz district in the Austrian state of Styria .

Geographical location

Tillmitsch is located in the western part of the Leibnitzer Feld in southern Styria.

The municipal area is part of the eastern foothills of the Sausal hill country (up to 340 m above sea level), but most of it lies in the valley floor (240 m above sea level).

Community structure

On January 1, 1968, the Altenberg community was incorporated into Leibnitz.

Since then , the Tillmitsch community has consisted of four cadastral communities : Altenberg, Maxlon, Steingrub, Tillmitsch.

Together with Großklein, Heimschuh, Kitzeck im Sausal, St. Andrä-Höch, St. Johann im Saggautal, St. Nikolai im Sausal and Gleinstätten, the municipality forms the "Sulmtal Sausal - Südsteirisches Weinland" tourism association. Its seat is Kitzeck in Sausal.

history

Tillmitsch was first mentioned in a document around 1220 as "Tubnaz". In the Guidassoni brick factory, traces of iron melt from the time 1000 BC were found. Found. Illyrians operated an iron smelter there.

To the north, on the border with Lang, lies the Iron Gate, the beginning of the so-called Devil's Trench. It extends to the Mur in Bachsdorf. The Teufelsgraben is a kind of Germanic Landwehr, approx. 11 m wide and approx. 2 m deep, from the time around 750-800 AD. During this time, the early medieval settlement by the Germans began.

The local community as an autonomous body was established in 1850. After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community came to the Reichsgau Steiermark, 1945 to 1955 it was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria.

Erich Macher (ÖVP) was elected the new mayor of Tillmitsch with 19 out of 21 votes in the constituent meeting of the municipal council on April 17, 2015 . He thus succeeded Alfred Langbauer (SPÖ).

The community board also includes the first vice mayor Erwin Kriegl (ÖVP), the second vice mayor Ewald Schenk (SPÖ), the community treasurer Robert Gritsch (list we for Tillmitsch ) and board member Werner Langbauer (FPÖ).

Municipal council

The 2015 municipal council election was like a political earthquake. The SPÖ, which emerged as the clear winner in the last local council elections, lost two thirds of its voters and thus fell from 14 to four seats, as many as the FPÖ , which had not stood at all in the last two elections, and the list We for Tillmitsch under her top candidate Robert Gritsch, who stood for election for the first time. The winner was the ÖVP, which won seven seats.

The municipal council consists of 21 members. After the 2015 municipal council elections, it will be composed as follows:

The municipal coat of arms, awarded in 1973, shows: "In a shield split by a narrow silver wave pole, in front three silver fir trees standing on top of each other in a green field, behind a red, silver jointed brick wall."
