Gleinstätten is a market town in the judicial district or district of Leibnitz , Styria , Austria and has 2774 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). As part of the Styrian municipal structural reform in 2015, the neighboring municipality of Pistorf Gleinstätten was incorporated.

Gleinstätten is located in the Sulmtal northeast of the confluence of the Black and White Sulm near Prarath.

The name Gleinstätten refers to a place in a loamy area, which is confirmed by the brick production in the place (similar to Gleinz). Haslach is derived from hazelnut plants that stand by a larger stream, an Ache . Prarath 1136 as Preurat , 1310 as Prewrewt occupied; However, it is not seen as an indication of clearing , but derived from the Slovenian prevrat "reversal, turn", which can be explained by the course of the rivers in this area (confluence of the White and Black Sulm and the Leibenbach to the Sulm).

history

Gleinstätten was originally called Micheldorf. In 1245 the fortification of a Konrad Micheldorfer is mentioned in a document. From 1285 to 1607 the Salzburg servants were the Gleinz lords of the place. From 1728 to 1885 the rule was in the hands of the Counts of Khünberg. In 1848 the manor was abolished. The local community as an autonomous body was established in 1850. After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community came to the Reichsgau Steiermark, 1945 to 1955 it was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria.

Gleinstätten was named a market town on January 1st, 1980.

  • Gleinstätten Castle : The castle was built in the 16th and 17th centuries. Century built. Today's appearance is a three-storey four-wing building with an arcade courtyard, restored in the Renaissance style by Franz Isidor Carlone in 1666 after a fire . A column on the ground floor is dated 1556. From 1975 to 1978 a fundamental renovation, restoration and adaptation for the elementary school and the municipal office took place. The arcade courtyard was covered. The Gleinstättner Castle Concerts and other events take place regularly.

  • Filialkirche St. George: The Filialkirche St. Georgen am Lukowisch is located on a hilltop south of Gleinstätten. It is mentioned in a document in 1383 and built in Gothic style.

Sports

The SV Union Tondach Gleinstätten , founded in 1947, is one of the most successful clubs in the region alongside SVL Flavia Solva and SV Allerheiligen bei Wildon . He plays in the national league. The home games are played in the Tondach Stadium. In the 2009/10 season the club was able to achieve the championship title in the national league with a total of 58 points thanks to a spring round in which 38 out of 45 possible points were earned. With the associated promotion to the Middle Regional League in summer 2010, SV Union Tondach Gleinstätten celebrated the greatest success in its history. With the relegation from the regional league in the summer of 2012 there was also a change in the squad (18 players left the club).

music

Marktmusik Gleinstätten was founded in January 2006. Market music has already celebrated numerous successes under Kapellmeister Franz Oswald. An “Excellent Success” was achieved at the 2007 Concert Rating Games in Leibnitz. In May 2008 the chapel was given a new uniform, which was inaugurated on May 18th at the market festival.

In the marching music evaluation in Wolfsberg 2008, Marktmusik Gleinstätten with staff leader Johannes Knieley also achieved excellent success in level C.

Economy and Infrastructure

In terms of tourism , the community is described as a "bathing pond community" and "center of seed oil". The municipality is a member municipality of the "Südsteirisches Weinland Nature Park". The area around Gleinstätten is used intensively for agriculture, with the cultivation of maize dominating.

Between Gleinstätten and Pölfing-Brunn , 6.1 kilometers of the Sulmtalbahn , which was closed at the end of May 1967, have been preserved and serve as a connecting line for the brickworks of Tondach Gleinstätten AG. The former train station is behind the warehouse (building materials center; not to be confused with the branch, the warehouse supermarket). The area of ​​the brickworks is in the municipality of Sankt Martin im Sulmtal . The company is one of the market leaders in roof tile production and has been expanding into Southeast Europe since 1992.

Gleinstätten was selected by State Councilor Kristina Edlinger-Ploder for the Shared Space project . This project was also financed by the State of Styria and was completed in 2011.

Tourism association

Together with Großklein, Heimschuh, Kitzeck im Sausal, St. Andrä-Höch, St. Johann im Saggautal, St. Nikolai im Sausal and Tillmisch, the municipality forms the "Sulmtal Sausal - Südsteirisches Weinland" tourism association. Its seat is in Kitzeck im Sausal.

Elke Halbwirth (ÖVP) was elected mayor after the resignation of Franz Koller at an urgent meeting of the municipal council on August 9, 2018 . Before that, Halbwirth was a member of the municipal council of the merged municipality of Pistorf and also of the merged municipal council of the market town of Gleinstätten.

Due to the amalgamation of the municipalities, the coat of arms lost its official validity on January 1st, 2015. The re-award took place with effect from December 1, 2015.
The new blazon reads:

"In the shield on the left, which is divided from silver to red, there is a blue, rear-looking peacock body with outstretched wings above, and a silver, red-decorated bishop's hat with two ribbons flying off below."
