The Gleinstätten Castle is located in the market town of Gleinstätten in the Leibnitz district in Styria . The castle is a listed building .

history

The present structure of the castle was built in the 16th and 17th centuries. After a fire (1666), the castle was restored with Franz Isidor Carlone. From 1975 to 1978 the already dilapidated building was thoroughly restored and renewed. The successful restoration of the castle in 1979 was recognized with the Architecture Prize of the State of Styria in 1980 and the Europa Nostra Diploma in 1981. The castle is in use as a primary school and municipal office. The utility wing is used as a kindergarten.

The four-wing building with a beautiful unity shows a painted wall structure on all sides with floor division and pilasters from the 17th century. The castle has set round corner towers with onion helmets. The courtyard shows itself with three-storey arcades, on the north and east sides as column arcades, partly with twisted bar supports. A ground floor column gives the year 1556. On the arcade walls there are remains of a scratch plaster.

The former chapel from 1740 in the south wing extends over two floors with a lancet vault on flat pilasters.
