The SV Union Tondach Gleinstätten , or SV Gleinstätten for short, is an Austrian football club from the southern Styrian market town of Gleinstätten in the Leibnitz district . Founded in 1947, it plays in the Styrian Oberliga Mitte , the fifth highest division in Austria. The club colors are red and white, although the color black can also be found in the club logo and dresses.

history

The club was officially founded in 1947, but for years it was only played in the lowest divisions. It was not until 2000 that they were promoted to the league, where the club quickly established itself and played at the front. Under coach Vlado Grujic you could move up in the 2002/03 season in the national league, here too Gleinstätten mostly found himself at the top of the table. In the 2005/06 ÖFB Cup , SV Gleinstätten played against SV Ried in the first round , with a surprisingly low 2-0 defeat. The greatest success in the club's history was the promotion to the Regionalliga Mitte, Austria's highest amateur league, in the 2009/10 season under coach Stefan Dörner. After a moderate autumn, the championship title could be fixed by an almost perfect spring, in which 38 out of 45 possible points were scored. In the 2010/11 ÖFB Cup , the club was eliminated in the 2nd round against FC Lustenau . At the end of the autumn 2010 season, Anton Ehmann took over the coaching position after Stefan Dörner had unexpectedly resigned a few weeks earlier. The 2010/11 season in the Regionalliga Mitte ended with a good eighth place and 41 points. As a result, coach Anton Ehmann was dismissed after internal disputes, Christian Gerlitz, formerly employed by the Styrian national league club SV Pachern, took over as coach in June 2011. After a weak spring in 2012, Gerlitz was replaced by Udo Kleindienst in mid-April, but even he could not help the club, which was in danger of relegation. 5 points in 15 rounds meant relegation to the Styrian regional league after two regional league years. The 2013/14 season in the Styrian regional league was finished in 4th place in the table. With the departure of coach Udo Kleindienst in June 2014, a transfer carousel began, in the course of which high-performing players left the club and could not be replaced with the same value. As the new coach, Hannes Reinmayr was given the task of staying up in the regional league with a small, inhomogeneous squad. Neither Reinmayr nor Ewald Ratschnig, who succeeded him as a trainer at the end of April 2015, succeeded in this. In the national league season 2014/15, SV Gleinstätten was able to score 25 points in 21 games under Reinmayr and 6 points in the remaining 9 games under Ratschnig, which with a total of 31 points was only enough for the 15th and penultimate place in the table, with the relegation in the league was sealed after two years of national league membership.

Stadion

The home games are played in the Tondach Stadium, located at the northern end of Gleinstätten. The stadium holds around 2000 spectators, around 600 of which can be found on the covered grandstand that was built in 1997.

The attendance record comes from a game between Gleinstätten, who was second in the table at the time, against the first Grazer AK on the penultimate match day of the 2016/17 season when 1,855 spectators were in the stadium. The game ended in a 0-0 draw.
