Erich Hafner (born April 2, 1959 in Gleisdorf ) is an Austrian politician of the FPÖ . On June 16, 2015, he was sworn in as a member of the Styrian state parliament , of which he was a member until December 17, 2019.

education and profession

After compulsory school, Hafner attended a technical college . After he broke off his training there after two years, he completed an apprenticeship as a technical draftsman and surveyor. He then worked in a planning office.

Political career

In 2001, Hafner suffered a serious illness while playing tennis , which had a decisive impact on the rest of his life. After his recovery, he took part in a tender by the FPÖ, to which he had already been a member of the municipal council for several years , as an organizational officer for Styria. After he was able to assert himself against several competitors, Hafner has been working full-time for the FPÖ since May 2002, from 2007 he was district chairman of the FPÖ Weiz. He is responsible for state training for Styria in the FPÖ educational institute .

On April 2, 2015, Hafner was nominated by the party executive for the state election 2015 on the state list of the FPÖ, which gave him a fair chance of moving into the Styrian state parliament. However, Hafner Hafner was able to celebrate his first success in the 2015 municipal council elections , where he led the FPÖ in Gersdorf an der Feistritz to four mandates, which gave him a seat on the municipal board as the municipal treasurer at the constituent meeting of the municipal council.

In the state elections in 2015 , Hafner led the FPÖ in the Weiz district to second place and played a key role in the FPÖ's good performance in Styria. His entry into the Styrian state parliament was thus also certain. Hafner does not want to lose his solidarity with the population: “I am and will remain Erich.” However, he does want to give up his job as an organizer. “I would like to devote myself entirely to my work in the state parliament and as a treasurer in my community,” says Hafner in an interview.

At the end of March 2019, Patrick Derler was elected as successor to Erich Hafner as FPÖ district party chairman in the Weiz district. After the state elections in 2019 , Hafner left the state parliament.

Private

Hafner is married and has two adult daughters (* 1979 and 1981). His hobbies include tennis, cross-country skiing, cycling.
