St. Ilgen is a locality or cadastral municipality and former municipality in the judicial district of Bruck an der Mur , political district of Bruck-Mürzzuschlag in Styria . Until December 31, 2014, St. Ilgen was an independent municipality with 275 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2014). Due to the municipal structural reform in Styria , St. Ilgen has been incorporated into the municipality of Thörl since 2015 together with the previously independent municipality Etmißl .

geography

St. Ilgen is located northwest of Kapfenberg and bears the name of its church patron, St. Giles . In the former municipal area are some of the most famous elevations of the Hochschwab Group , such as its main summit and the striking Festlbeilstein .

structure

St. Ilgen consists of the only cadastral community St. Ilgen and the only village Sankt Ilgen.

politics

Margit Peßl (SPÖ) was mayor until December 31, 2014.

Due to the municipal council elections in 2010, the municipal council consisted of six members of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) and three members of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP).

Blazon (coat of arms description):

Regional policy

St. Ilgen was a member of the 2nd December 2009 Regionext-Kleinregion Hochschwab Süd , and in the LEADER region Mariazellerland-Mürz Valley .

On the occasion of the municipal structural reform in Styria , the municipality was ready to merge with Etmißl and Thörl . Thörl was also in negotiations with Bruck and Kapfenberg, but incorporation into these cities was rejected by the local politics of St. Ilgner and Etmißler. A further merger with Aflenz Kurort / Aflenz Land and perhaps Turnau (six-solution) was also under discussion .
