Sankt Lorenzen im Mürzzuschlag is an Austrian market town with 3703 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the judicial district of Bruck an der Mur and in the political district of Bruck-Mürzzuschlag in Styria .

geography

The center of Sankt Lorenzen is at an altitude of 560  m above sea level. A. , the highest point in the municipality is the Töllmarkogel in the north at 1366  m .

Sankt Lorenzen im Mürz Valley is northeast of the town of Kapfenberg . Other neighboring communities are (clockwise) Parschlug , Turnau , Kindberg , Allerheiligen in Mürz Valley , Mürzhofen and Sankt Marein in Mürz Valley .

history

Sankt Lorenzen im Mürz Valley was first mentioned in a document in 860 . The place went down in history because of the Lorenz window lintel on May 8, 1921.

On August 18, 1929, parallel rallies by the Schutzbund and Heimwehr led to a street battle with initially one dead and 57 injured. 30 of them were seriously injured, two of whom died soon afterwards. This event was one of the reasons for the resignation of the Federal Government Streeruwitz .

After the constituent meeting of the municipal council on April 21, 2015, the municipal board also includes the first vice mayor Richard Thomüller (FPÖ), the second vice mayor Josef Tonweber (SPÖ), the community treasurer Georg Steiner (WIR - party-independent list) and board member Dieter Schiroky (SPÖ ) on.
