Sankt Sebastian is a former municipality with 1015 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2014) in the judicial district of Bruck an der Mur and in the political district of Bruck-Mürzzuschlag in Styria . On January 1, 2015, it was incorporated into the municipality of Mariazell together with the municipalities of Gußwerk and Halltal as part of the municipal structural reform in Styria .
geography
Sankt Sebastian is the northernmost town in Styria and is located north of the pilgrimage site of Mariazell at an altitude of 800 m ( Erlaufsee ) to 1635 m ( Zellerhut ). The place houses most of the infrastructure facilities of the Mariazellerland , u. a. also the southern end point of the Mariazellerbahn .
The former municipality of Sankt Sebastian consisted of the only cadastral municipality of St. Sebastian or two localities :
- the scattered houses Grünau with the Rotte Rasing (parts of which also belonged to Mariazell and Gußwerk) and the scattered settlement Hechtensee , and
- the village of Sankt Sebastian with the hamlets of Grubau and Nazbauer , the Rotten Mitterbach and Weißenbach , the Habertheuer and Waldrandsiedlung settlements and the scattered settlements of Erlaufsee , Lurg and Neukogler .

Regional policy
The place is part of the Leader region Mariazellerland – Mürz Valley and a member of the Agenda 21 and tourism region Mariazeller Land , whose Styrian communities also form the Regionext-Kleinregion of the name.
