history

Abbot Heinrich II. Moyker von St. Lambrecht (1419-1455) gave the building permit in 1443. The church was surrounded by a curtain wall in 1464. In 1485 the church was destroyed in a war with Hungary. With Abbot John III. Sachs (1478-1518) the church was rebuilt.

architecture

The church stands on the top of a hill on a partly artificial plateau. The uniform late Gothic church building is surrounded by a wall and has a staircase in the south. The three-bay nave is followed by a one-bay choir, raised by two steps, in the same building width with a 3/8 end. The strong all-round coffee cornice was pulled up like a gable in the west. The church is vaulted with a net rib vault on strong semicircular services with bases, the nave and the choir are separated by a double service. The vault in the choir shows three coats of arms. The two-lane tracery windows have panes from 1914. The keel-arched portal in the west has a funnel-shaped reveal. The ogival portal in the north is walled up. The six-sided ridge above the choir has a pointed helmet. The wooden west gallery with a parapet made of turned docks was built in around 1670 and shows the coat of arms of Abbot Franz von Kaltenhausen (1662–1707).

Furnishing

The high altar from the 3rd quarter of the 17th century shows the altar sheet Maria lactans on the crescent moon by the painter Friedrich Stilpp (1761). There is a remnant of a winged altar from around 1500 with passion scenes with Christ on the Mount of Olives in the shrine and the side figures Peter and Andrew. The baroque pulpit is from the 2nd quarter of the 18th century. A votive picture of Sorrowful Mary is from 1640.

A statue of Maria lactans around 1380 has been in the Germanic Museum in Nuremberg since 1926 .
