Until the end of 2014, Aflenz Kurort was a market town with a last 1040 inhabitants (as of January 31, 2019) in the judicial district of Bruck an der Mur and in the political district of Bruck-Mürzzuschlag in Styria . As part of the municipality of structural reform in Styria it was from January 1, 2015 with the municipality Aflenz Land for market town of Aflenz together.

The former municipality of Aflenz Kurort with 16.1 square kilometers was located in the Seetal in Styria and was the neighboring municipality of Aflenz Land . Aflenz Kurort had no other cadastral parishes .

history

Avelniz was first mentioned in a Bamberg document in 1025: King Konrad II donated the Aflenzer and Mariazellerland to Beatrix, the wife of Adalbero von Eppenstein . In the course of the establishment of St. Lambrecht Abbey , the area came to this Eppensteiner house monastery in 1103 . Until the abolition of the basic subservience in 1848, the abbots of St. Lambrecht were landlords who administered the Aflenzertal from the Aflenz Propsteig building.

The area of ​​today's municipality was part of the Duchy of Styria, which was separated from Bavaria in 1180 . Styria and Austria have been united in personal union since 1192.

Aflenz received market rights in 1458 from Emperor Friedrich III. awarded.

Styria has been part of Inner Austria since 1564 and part of the Austrian Empire since 1804 . Aflenz Kurort became part of the founded Republic of Austria in 1918. After Austria was annexed to the German Empire , Aflenz belonged to the Reichsgau Steiermark. From 1945 to 1955 the place was part of the British occupation zone.

Regional policy

Aflenz Kurort was a member of the 2nd December 2009 Regionext-Kleinregion Hochschwab Süd , and in the LEADER -Region Mariazellerland – Mürzal .

Regarding the municipal structural reform of Styria 2010-2015 , a merger with Aflenz Land has been decided. The additional participation of Turnau (3-way solution) and even a more extensive merger with St. Ilgen / Etmißl / Thörl (6-part solution) were also discussed, but these did not materialize.

The health resort Aflenz is located on the southern flank of the Hochschwab massif and is climatically favored by its protected location. Aflenz was named a climatic health resort as early as 1920, and in 1979 it was given the title of “climatic health resort”. The Bürgeralm is the starting point for hikes in summer and winter sports.

Today, Aflenz offers a range of sports, leisure, spa and recreational activities. Summer tourism began as early as the late 19th century. In addition to summer tourist traffic, winter tourism also developed. In 1954 the first ski lift was built on the Bürgeralm .
