history

The parish was mentioned in a document in 1066 and is considered the mother parish of all churches in this area. The parish was incorporated into St. Lambrecht Monastery from 1103 to 1958 . In 1155 there was a cell with five monks in the village. From the middle, the presumably three-aisled Romanesque church was rebuilt and rebuilt by local masters. Construction of the tower began in 1451. In 1471 the choir was built with Peter Pögl. From 1490 to around 1519, the building of the nave and the upper floor of the tower probably took place with Master Wolfgang. Another nine master names are mentioned. A consecration of the church was announced for 1503. The church was probably not completed until around 1510. Restorations were 1905/1906, 1959 inside, 1967 outside, 1973 and 2002 inside.

architecture

The three-and-a-half-bay high, wide and bright nave, three steps lower than the choir, has particularly pronounced, semi-retracted buttresses that are stepped on the outside, creating niches with passageways on the inside. The nave is vaulted with a richly looped ribbed vault with free-running ribs on the side walls. The keystones of the vault are remarkably figurative. The buttresses were placed inside 3/4 circle services. The tracery windows are three-lane and have panes from 1906. The remarkable three-axis gallery in the western half yoke is vaulted under with a loop rib vault. The side axes of the gallery are set back, the central axis protrudes like a bay and stands on two round columns. The arched reveals of the gallery show twisted bars and the parapet shows quatrefoil fields. On the nave walls are stone relief busts of the twelve apostles from the end of the construction period.

The retracted two-bay choir with a five-eighth end raised by three steps to the nave is lower than the nave and is vaulted with a ribbed vault with heraldic shield capstones on 3/4 round services on wall templates. The triumphal arch constricts the choir and shows a twisted staff at the base of the vault.

The mighty tower as a defensive tower stands in the middle of the south corner of the western front and thus protrudes half over the south front of the nave and shows the year 1451 on the south side. The three-storey tower has eaves. The uppermost tower floor is designed as a defensive floor with shooting chambers and corner core (1510) and has a pointed helmet.

Furnishing

The high altar and the free-standing tabernacle and the side altars were built after 1770.
