history

Opening train of the Oberlandbahn within Landau

From 1913 to 1953 Landau was the southern terminus of the Palatinate Oberland Railway, which began in Neustadt . This was designed as a regional tram and was primarily intended to open up places that were not on the Maximiliansbahn. The train itself ran right through the city to end at the station forecourt. The Germersheim – Landau railway line , on which the Dammheim district had a stop, was discontinued in 1984, the Landau – Herxheim railway line, which also connected the Mörlheim district, was discontinued in 1983. Both lines had lost their former importance after the Second World War.
