About this picture
Setzfeldsee

Neupotz is a municipality in the district of Germersheim in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Jockgrim , within which it is the smallest local community in terms of population.

geography

location

The community is located about two kilometers west of the Rhine on one of the many loops that became the Old Rhine as a result of Tulla's Rhine straightening . Parts of the forest in the direction of the Rhine are so-called alluvial forests , which are often under water. Neupotz also includes the Birkenhof, Burgerhof, Erlenhof, Hardtwald, Jägerhof and Schmiedhof residential spaces.

Waters

The Erlenbach in the north and the Otterbach in the south flow through the Neupotz district . The latter takes on the Wattbach flowing through the middle of the settlement area from the right. There are several standing waters on or near the Old Rhine , including the Setzfeldsee and the Obere Flätigsee . The Old Rhine also exists near Neupotz .

history

mention

The village of Pfotz was first mentioned in 1270. In 1522 the shores of the old fishing village of Pfotz were torn away when a dam was built near Jockgrim . In 1535 the inhabitants of Pfotz built a new village on the western boundary of the district called Neupfotz. The name comes from the Latin purteus , German puddle, marshland .

Bell saga from Potz

“The old village of Potz was once eaten away by the floods of the Rhine, it sank into the waters and has since rests in the dark depths. But when a fisherman drives over the spot where the village used to be on a Sunday morning, he can clearly see the village, the church, the fishermen's huts in the water and hear the bells of the little St. Nicholas church ringing below. "

Hoard find

The oldest horseshoes in Germany were found near Neupotz . They are dated to AD 294 and, along with kitchen utensils, files and other utensils, are part of the booty from a Roman villa, which is considered to be the largest hoard of the Teutons who crossed the Rhine in the third century . The pieces are shown in the traveling exhibition The Barbarian Treasure. The exhibition was a guest in Speyer, Augsburg, Luxemburg and Bonn, among others.

Modern times

From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , "Neupfotz" was incorporated into the canton of Germersheim and was subordinate to Mairie Leimersheim . In 1815 the place Austria was added. Just one year later, the municipality, like the entire Palatinate, moved to the Kingdom of Bavaria . Then the place changed to the Kingdom of Bavaria. From 1818 to 1862 Neu-Pfotz belonged - as the spelling at the time - to the Landkommissariat Germersheim ; from this the district office of Germersheim emerged.

On February 7, 1935, the place name was changed from "Neupfotz" to "Neupotz". Since 1939 the place is part of the district of Germersheim . After the Second World War , the municipality within the French occupation zone became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate . In the course of the first administrative reform in Rhineland-Palatinate , Neupotz was incorporated into the newly created community of Jockgrim in 1972 . From 1975 to 1987 the Ortsgemeindez planned as the location for a nuclear power plant with two blocks of 1300 MW each. These plans were finally abandoned after the Chernobyl accident in 1986.

At the end of 2006, an investor appeared before the local council who wanted to build a floating holiday village with 66 floating houses on the Setzfeldsee . He also planned to build a public bathing beach and to bear the running costs. The topic was discussed a lot in the village, it was often a topic in the regional newspaper Die Rheinpfalz and on January 23, 2008 in the SWR broadcast Reiss und Menschen . According to a representative survey carried out by Forsa among newcomers on behalf of the local council , 54 percent of citizens were against the holiday village, only 34 percent were in favor. On February 12, 2008, Die Rheinpfalz reported that the investor had rejected his plans for Neupotz.
