From 1802 to 1815 Berg belonged to the French canton of Lauterbourg , in 1815 it became part of the canton of Kandel and in 1816 it became Bavarian . In all the armed conflicts of the past and later - the Thirty Years War , War of the Spanish Succession , Franco-German War and the two world wars of the 20th century , the community was never spared.
Berg in World War II
North of the mountain ran the Western Wall , so the place with its border in the south to France in the " Red Zone " was. In September 1939 the place was evacuated and the residents were brought to the Main Franconia region (including Gerolzhofen , Volkach , Haßfurt and Sommerach ). After several families had already moved closer to home, families returned to Berg in June 1940. A second evacuation took place in December 1944 due to the approaching American troops. This time the people found refuge partly in nearby places in the southern Palatinate. Return was possible in January 1945. In the further course, French soldiers replaced the American ones.

Culture and sights
Museums
In Neulauterburg there is an exhibition on the border in the so-called "Customs Museum" in the former "Customs pavilion". During his active time, this was used for customs formalities when crossing the border between Germany and France and served the German customs officials as office and work space.
Buildings
The Roman Rheinuferstraße ran through Berg, and a Leugenstein marked the distance to Speyer. Only the base of this Roman milestone on the Roman road from Basel to Mainz has been preserved; it can be found at the end of the town next to Landesstrasse 540. This is the first stone of this important Roman long-distance connection on German territory. Another milestone is located at the continuation of the Roman road to the east.
