The Verbandsgemeinde Hagenbach became part of the Rhineland-Palatinate regional and administrative reform on the basis of the "Thirteenth State Law on Administrative Simplification in the State of Rhineland-Palatinate" of March 1, 1972, came into force on April 22, 1972, newly formed.

The coat of arms description reads: “In a four-fold shield border divided by gold and green , in a four- fold shield a green beech tree with roots in silver at the top right, a gold anchor in black at the top left, a floating silver cross in blue at the bottom right, a silver cross in gold at the bottom left over a green three-mountain a red rose."
