history
Early history and the Middle Ages
The area of Rülzheim has been settled since the Neolithic Age and is located on an old north-south traffic route on the (flood-proof) left high bank of the Rhine . Traces of settlement can also be found on the Roman road, which was also built there, from Roman times , which also establish a connection to the nearby, important terra sigillata industry in Rheinzabern - called tabernae . In 2014, a hoard from late antiquity (see hoard from Rülzheim ) attracted public attention because it was handed over to the preservation authorities by a robbery under the pressure of investigations. The illegal robbery excavations destroyed valuable information about the treasure. In addition, it remains unclear whether pieces of the treasure have already been sold (see antique stealing ). The find includes u. a. golden decorations of a stately robe, silver dishes and the remains of a gold-plated and silver-plated folding chair.
The place Rülzheim was mentioned for the first time in 774 as "Rotlehesheim" in the Lorsch Codex . It can be counted among the places that were created during the Frankish conquest . In the Middle Ages , Rülzheim became part of the Speyer Monastery , the "owners" were the knights of the Teutonic Order .
Modern times
After the Palatinate War of Succession , the place came to France as part of Alsace and formed the northernmost border settlement in the Lauterburg Oberamt . In 1799, Rülzheim - as it was called at the time - was incorporated into the canton of Landau and later in the canton of Kandel . In 1816, Rülzheim, like the other areas of the Speyer monastery on the left bank of the Rhine , became part of the Bavarian Rhine District . From 1818 to 1862 he was a member of the Landkommissariat Germersheim ; from this the district office of Germersheim emerged.
Rülzheim has been part of the Germersheim district since 1939 . After the Second World War , the place became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . The formerly strongly agricultural community (especially tobacco and sugar beet cultivation ) experienced a strong economic boom during this time through the settlement of manufacturing and service industries. In the course of the first administrative reform in Rhineland-Palatinate , the municipality was added to the newly formed association of the same name in 1972 .

coat of arms
Blazon : "In red on bogigem grassy green ground a golden armored knight with an open visor on silver goldbewehrtem Ross with golden bridles, in the right one with a golden Tatzenkreuz besteckte golden rod cautious." | |
Justification for the coat of arms: The coat of arms, approved in 1842, is based on the old town seal with the inscription "The Rilzheim Court Insigil Anno 1721". The knight of the motif is the church patron St. Mauritius , who is usually depicted with the cross flag. On the coat of arms, the cross is on a pole, which probably represents a lance. |
Culture and sights
Cultural monuments
The street ensemble Mittlere Ortsstrasse and Neue Landstrasse and the Jewish cemetery are designated as monument zones. The latter is located outside the village on the road to Herxheimweyher. In the almost 49 ares large cemetery, which was laid out in 1826, there are still around 420 tombstones.

- Former synagogue , built in 1832 and 1833 by the architect August von Voit ; today "Center for Art and Culture".
- Parish church of St. Mauritius (Lage) of the Catholic parish in the center of the village. The oldest part of the church is the west tower built on a late Gothic substructure from 1498. Today's nave was built in 1767 and later expanded.
- Dieterskirchel on Rheinzaberner Strasse. Little church where Saint Diethardt died in 670. The building dates from 1957 and is reminiscent of the pilgrimage church of Ronchamp .

Next to it there is an event hall, a campsite, a tennis facility, the “Mhou” ostrich farm , which opened in 2007 , a petting zoo, a swimming lake and a club hut village. Since October 2015 an "Alla-Hopp" facility has been created in Rülzheim on the old festival grounds. The exercise and play facility for everyone was financed by the Dietmar Hopp Foundation . At the edge of the forest on Rheinzaberner Straße is the Rülzheimer Peter-Becht-Stadion. Several designated Nordic walking trails lead through the community forest.
In addition, there is the “Dampfnudel” leisure center (Lage) from 1974, which was originally developed as an open-air hall with a special air-cushion roof by the Krupp company from Essen. Due to the similarity to traditional pastries from the Palatinate , the leisure center with the white dome that can be seen from afar and an outer diameter of 36 meters was known regionally as “steam noodle”. From spring 2010 to autumn 2011 the building was renovated and the air-cushion roof replaced with a rigid construction.

economy
Rülzheim is the seat of the trading company MTS MarkenTechnikService and the automotive supplier ITK Engineering . The Swiss company Kardex also has a local branch. The community is also part of the VR Bank Südpfalz business area .
Some tobacco drying sheds (location) are reminiscent of the tobacco growing of the 19th and 20th centuries in Rülzheim and the surrounding area. Rülzheim is the namesake of the so-called Rülzheimer shed; This is a long, three to four meter high wooden shed with a flat gable roof. This type of dandruff appeared in the 1970s; older scales were usually shorter, but significantly higher. Some copies of the Rülzheimer shed have been preserved around 300 m north of the train station.

Since the end of December 2010, the former has been replacing the former train station located around 250 meters southwest . Both stops are located in the network area of the Karlsruhe Transport Association (KVV) as well as that of the Rhein-Neckar Transport Association (VRN) . In addition, bus route 554 runs through Rülzheim, which connects to Rheinzabern and Landau in the Palatinate .
On the eastern edge of the village, the motorway-like B 9 runs . Rülzheim is connected to the expressway with two connections, Rülzheim North and Rülzheim South . The A 65 is about nine kilometers west of Rülzheim and can be reached via the state road 493 , which runs through the town with Vorderweidenthal and Hördt. The closest connection point is Rohrbach . The state road 540 runs in a north-south direction through the middle of the municipality and connects it with Neustadt an der Weinstrasse and Berg .
