Erlenbach bei Kandel is a municipality in the district of Germersheim in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Kandel .
geography
Erlenbach, one of the smaller towns in the Kandel community , is located between Karlsruhe and Landau in the Palatinate . The Erlenhof and Waldhof residential areas also belong to the community . In the south of the village flows the Erlenbach , which forms the boundary to the city of Kandel .
history
Erlenbach is one of the smallest communities in the district of Germersheim. In the past, Erlenbach was often referred to as "Irlenbach". When it was first mentioned in 1330, the original imperial village was already in pledge ownership of the Electoral Palatinate .

In 2012, 52.8 percent of the population were Protestant and 24.4 percent Catholic. The rest belonged to another religion or were non-denominational. In 1871, 569 of a total of 643 inhabitants were Protestant (88 percent) and 74 Catholic (12 percent).

Municipal council
The municipal council in Erlenbach consists of twelve council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman. In the election in 2009, the council members were elected in a personalized proportional representation.

Maik Wünstel (independent) became mayor of Erlenbach in 2018. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in office for a further five years with a share of 92.66% of the votes. His predecessor Klaus Bolz died in office in 2018.
