Zeiskam is a municipality in the district of Germersheim in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Bellheim .
geography
Geographical location
The place is in the southern Palatinate between Germersheim and Landau in the Palatinate .
Waters
In the south of the community (Zeiskamer Mühle) runs the lower course of the Queich , which flows into the Rhine in Germersheim . In addition, the Fuchsbach , a derivative of the Queich, around which a Zeiskamer legend is entwined, and the Hainbach coming from the Haardt also flow through Zeiskam .
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 774 in the Lorsch Codex as Zezzincheim . It is the headquarters of the " Noble von Zeiskam " (960–1604), whose last representative was Wilhelm Christof.
In the vicinity of Zeiskam stood the Order of St. John Commandery Heimbach . It was destroyed in the Palatinate Peasants' War in 1525. In 2000 Zeiskam became the state winner in the competition Our village should become more beautiful .

Religions
In 2012, 42.8 percent of the population were Protestant and 35 percent Catholic. The rest belonged to another religion or were non-denominational. In 1871, of a total of 1,769 inhabitants, 1,233 were Protestant (70 percent) and 536 were Catholic (30 percent).

The coat of arms description reads: "In silver two diagonally crossed natural onions with green tubes, angled at the top by a floating black capital letter Z, at the bottom by a village symbol in the form of a blue disc elevated by a golden Greek cross".
It goes back to a seal from 1571.

- In January 2008 the Zeiskam municipal council decided to enter into a further partnership with Monts in France. The solemn sealing of this partnership took place on October 11, 2008.

- Town hall, built in 1833, two-story, classicistic by Leo von Klenze , the architect of King Ludwig I of Bavaria
- Catholic Church of St. Bartholomew, built 1754/55, two baroque altars and a rococo pulpit (1838–1844)
- Evangelical church, built in 1838/1844 according to plans by August von Voit , neo-Romanesque, valuable organ
- Beer cellar, built in 1842, historic vaulted cellar for storing natural ice that was used to cool beer
- Birthplace of the Napoleonic general Jacob-François Marulaz (1769–1842) at Kronstrasse 26

The artist guest house Gawrisch at Hauptstraße 14 supports and promotes mainly Eastern European artists. The scholarship requires a well-founded academic training.
Culture
In Zeiskam there are some culturally active associations that are known far beyond the region, including the first trombone choir association in Germany was founded here.

The onion sovereignty
For the first time in 1999, for the 1225th anniversary, Miriam I, an onion queen, was elected. Since then, a new highness has been crowned every one to two years at the beginning of the Kirwea. The Highnesses represent Zeiskam nationwide at trade fairs, parades and even across Europe in the partner communities. Since 2006, the onion queen has been supported by an onion princess at her side so that they can better attend to the numerous appointments together.

Economy and Infrastructure
economy
Zeiskam is known for its vegetable growing. The cultivation of onions is traditionally important . The agricultural cooperative “ Pfalzmarkt ”, based in Mutterstadt, operates a branch in Zeiskam. The share of those employed in agriculture is declining, but there are large farms with a total of 499 hectares of agricultural land that continue to contribute to the agricultural character.
In the south of the municipality is the “In der Sauheide” industrial park, where several companies have settled, including various transport and building materials companies, a beverage wholesaler and the like. a.
traffic
The federal road 272 runs north of the municipality and runs from Landau ( A 65 ) to Schwegenheim ( B 9 ).
Zeiskam was connected to the rail network via the Germersheim – Landau railway line . However, the connection was closed in 1998 after passenger traffic was terminated in 1984 and goods traffic in 1991. Since 2006 it has been used for tourism again for trolley transport. In normal traffic, the service is handled with the bus line 590 .
